Nottinghamshire Police's 'Nxt Gen' award ceremony.

Organisers of the Nottinghamshire Young Persons Award recognising skills including talent, leadership and resilience are looking for this year’s winners.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Nxt Gen award for children that deserve to be celebrated is receiving nominations for its 2026 award ceremony.

Nxt Gen was launched on January 1 and focuses on celebrating individuals aged nine to 18.

The award is given to children with incredible achievements that live or attend schools across Nottinghamshire.

“we’re proud to champion the next generation”

INSPECTOR PAUL PEATFIELD

Artistic talent, leadership and overcoming adversity are a few of the categories that can enable children to be nominated for the award.

The police have asked for parents, carers, guardians, teachers, club leaders and professionals to continue submitting application forms for the children as they ‘deserve’ to celebrate their achievements.

Two nominees for each category will be invited to the ceremony at Nottinghamshire Police’s headquarters for an evening of hospitality and entertainment on May 8.

Inspector Paul Peatfield, Nottinghamshire Police’s engagement team lead, which run the awards said: “Each year we’re inspired by the talent, resilience, and positive impact shown in the nominations we receive, and it’s always difficult to shortlist such outstanding young people.

“At Nottinghamshire Police, we’re proud to champion the next generation and give them a platform to share their stories.

“If you know a young person doing something brilliant, don’t keep it quiet – nominate them now.”

Former London Young Persons Award recipient in October 2024, now Nottingham Trent University student, Shianne Sullivan explained what an honour it was to receive such an award.

“All the set backs I faced when I was younger and I managed to overcome, I am happy it was recognised in my community.

“I didn’t see it as much at the time but looking back to the event it was huge, my family were so proud of me and when I look back so am I.

“It is a special opportunity for children to be celebrated.”

Shianne won the award for resilience and facing personal challenges.

Nominations close at 11.45pm on February 1, before a panel of judges shortlists the nominees.
