A large pothole on a busy road on the inner ring road in Mansfield has caused concerns amongst residents.
The discovery of the pothole coincides with National Pothole Day (22nd January), an annual campaign aimed at highlighting the scale of road maintenance issues across the country.
The affected stretch of road is regularly used by commuters and public transport, raising concerns about potential disruption if the issue is not addressed.
Agents acting on behalf of Notts County Council were at the scene when our photographer took this picture. However, this particular pothole has been filled and patched up several times in the past and continues to plague road-users.
“There’s another one forming on Mansfield Road in Woodhouse, but they just seem to be everywhere.”
Steph Crowder, Nottingham resident
Nottinghamshire County Council is responsible for maintaining roads in the area, with potholes typically inspected and repaired based on severity and location.
Several residents said potholes have caused damage to their vehicles and expressed worry about road safety across the area.
Anthony James Archer, a Mansfield resident, said he had to pay around £2,000 for suspension repairs after hitting a pothole and claimed he had not received a response after submitting a claim to the council.
Debra Ginniver, a Nottingham resident said she believes road conditions across the area are poor, describing them as “an absolute disgrace”.
Another resident, Stef Crowder said new potholes continue to appear, adding: “There’s another one forming on Mansfield Road in Mansfield Woodhouse, but they just seem to be everywhere.”
How to claim compensation for pothole damage to your vehicle:
Document the pothole and location: Note the exact location, date and time of the incident and take plenty of pictures from various angles of the pothole and damage made to your vehicle.
Gather supporting information: If there were witnesses, collect their contact details, and save any dashcam footage you may have.
For motorways and major A roads: Contact National Highways (phone: 0300 123 5000).
Submit your claim: Most authorities have an online claim form on their website. Fill it out with all the details and attach all the evidence you have gathered.
