A car thief who was tracked down by police officers whilst on the run has been jailed for six months.

Warren Staniforth, 41 of Bankwood Close, Aspley tried to evade police for weeks after stealing a car from outside an address in Hanslope Crescent, Broxtowe on November 26 2025.

Staniforth was forensically linked to the crime after leaving fingerprints on the car’s door handle and steering wheel.

The 41 year old was climbing through an open window in a Broxtowe property when he was arrested on January 15. Whilst being arrested, he assaulted two of the officers present.

He admitted each offence and was sentenced at Nottingham Magistrates Court to six months in prison on Friday January 16.

Sergeant Emma O’Meara, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Tackling vehicle crime is a policing priority for the neighbourhood team in Aspley as well, which makes the custodial sentence issued to a prolific offender like Staniforth even more pleasing.”
