Andy Warhol's Campbell's soup cans

Nottingham’s art calendar for 2026 is starting strong, with a major exhibit with work by Andy Warhol coming to Lakeside Arts from January 24-April 19.

The show, presented in partnership with Tate and National Galleries of Scotland as part of the Artist rooms programme, is set to bring an expansive variety of the 20th century artist’s work to view.

The exhibition will highlight Warhol’s interest consumerism, love, death and fame, as well as a deeper understanding of his early life and career as a commercial illustrator.

Warhol famously turned consumer products like Campbell’s Soup and Coca-Cola bottles into illustrious symbols of modern culture.

Work from the American pop art pioneer, including his 1967 Marilyn series, electric chairs from his Death and Disaster series and drawings of David Hockney and Mick Jagger, will be available to view throughout the months in the Nottingham exhibit.

Ashley Gallant, interim Head of Visual Arts Programming, Lakeside Arts said: “Warhol’s work encourages us to look again at the familiar and reflect on how culture and consumerism shape our lives.

“At Lakeside, we are committed to bringing world-class art to our local communities.”

The event will officially launch on January 23, 6:30pm-9:30pm. There will also be further related events such as Andy Warhol: Behind the Scenes, and Andy Warhol and photography ran by Art historian Dr Mark Rawlinson.
