A runaway driver has been jailed after leading police on a high speed chase through residential streets.
Logan Brandt, 24, was jailed for eight months at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on January 2 after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and driving without a licence.
Brandt, who has also been banned from driving, was asked to stop on January 1 after he was spotted driving in Bulwell without tax, insurance, a driving licence or valid MOT.
In the minutes that followed, he reached speeds of more than 70mph, ran red lights and carried out dangerous overtakes.
He was eventually brought to a stop by police, including armed response officers, by using a tyre-deflating stinger device on the brow of a hill.
With one tyre deflated, he began to lose control, at which point pursuing vehicles boxed him in.
Brandt then jumped into the back seat, and claimed he wasn’t the one driving the vehicle.
He also falsely alleged he had suffered a broken leg during the incident.
After failing an initial roadside drugs wipe, Brandt later walked into custody, gave no-comment answers during questioning, and refused to provide a blood sample.
Detective Inspector Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Brandt put himself, his passenger, and other road users at risk with a needless and dangerous display of driving.
“Thanks to the skill and professionalism of everyone involved in this pursuit, he failed in his bid to avoid justice and has now faced the full consequences of his actions.”
