NTU Tennis have swapped the courts for kilometres today, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of men’s health as well as boosting donations for Movember.

Not only are they growing some lengthy moustaches in aid of the cause but they’re taking their efforts off the court and onto the pavement in a continuous running challenge designed to push both body and spirit.

Ben Thomas, president of NTU Tennis said: “We believe it’s a fun way to socialise, be active and raise money for a good cause.

“It’s a yearly tradition now for NTU Tennis and we love to see all abilities of player, both male and female, get involved.”

He added: “As president, this is something I really wanted to make sure I carried on as I see it as a really important cause for men. We are hoping to raise more money this year than last so will take a big effort from everyone to achieve this!”

The group are sending clusters of members out continuously for 24 hours from 12 midday today until Saturday lunchtime. All runners are taking on 30 minute to one hour slots. The aim is to keep the miles ticking over without a break in momentum.

Members of all abilities are getting involved – some opting for a gentle jog while others push the pace – mirroring the community approach behind Movember.

Ben added: “As athletes we know that strength isn’t just physical, it’s mental too. Whether pushing through a tough two hours plus match or supporting a mate going through tough times. We are very big on teamwork and unity within the club. These values are why we want to motivate and show that it’s okay to talk, ask for help, and support one another when we may be at a low.”

“I saw first hand how this simple activity can spark conversations, raise awareness and start momentum for positive change.”

Daniel Wright, captain of the men’s first team, who will also be running today added: “The run is a great opportunity to support a cause that genuinely matters to our community while providing a chance to push ourselves.

“Last year, I saw first hand how this simple activity can spark conversations, raise awareness and start momentum for positive change. This year the goal is to build on that and create some lasting impact!”

As the challenge kicks off, spirits are high. All NTU Tennis really hope is that their miles leave a mark much bigger than the distance they cover. The challenge stands as a testament to teamwork and resilience but also a reminder of the importance of checking in, speaking up and supporting one another.

The plan is to raise £750 toward the cause and donations are steadily rolling in. For those wanting to contribute, the team’s Movember page remains open for donations. To get involved click here: https://tinyurl.com/4mn8cxjr
