Introducing the latest advice for shopaholics that helps you create a stylish and care-free wardrobe, all while cutting down on clutter, overconsumption, and fast-fashion habits.

The 333 fashion challenge, is a minimalist wardrobe challenge with a simple concept: limit your wardrobe to 33 items or fewer for three months, including clothes, shoes, accessories and outwear.

“I have too many clothes in my wardrobe but I still don’t know what to wear most of the time”

Jessica Brown, shopper

The goal is to simplify your wardrobe, reduce decision stress, and be more intentional about what you wear. By limiting your choices you focus on versatile, high-quality pieces that you truly love.

Jessica Brown, 17, of Bulwell, dressed head to toe in highstreet fashion

When asked if she would ever consider opting for the 333 fashion challenge, Jessica Brown, 17, of Bulwell, said: “I have too many clothes in my wardrobe but I still don’t know what to wear most of the time.”

“I think the fashion challenge would help make it easier to narrow down outfit options.”

The rules of the challenge:

  • When: it’s never too late to start! All you need to do is pick a day and continue for three months.
  • What: only wear 33 items including clothing, shoes, jewellery, accessories and outwear.
  • What not: wedding rings (or other sentimental jewellery that you do not take off), loungewear, sleepwear and workout clothes.
  • How: pick out your 33 items and remove all other items from your wardrobe so that they’re out of sight and out of mind.
  • Things to consider: you are designing a wardrobe that you have to live, work and leisure in. And remember if your clothes no longer fit or are in poor damage, you can replace them.

However Ryan said: “I don’t think I would consider the fashion challenge as I don’t have that many clothes to work with.”

Fashion waste often refers to any items of clothing that are thrown away. Each year in the UK, an estimated 350,000 tonnes of used clothing ends up in landfill, representing around £140 million of lost resource value.
