Notts County begin their FA Cup campaign away to National League Brackley Town on Saturday in a first competitive meeting between the two sides.

Head Coach Martin Paterson will be hoping to continue County’s excellent form into the first round of the FA Cup when they play away to Brackley on Saturday evening.

The Magpies are currently unbeaten in five and will be hoping to build on their league form with a successful cup run in a competition which they won in 1894.

Paterson, about County’s success in the competition, said: “It’s a proud memory for the club that they’ve won it.”

He added: “I am proud as punch to be sat here as head coach of Notts County.”

With a tough game coming up, Paterson is looking at this game to continue their competitive form.

The head coach said: “When you go away to Brackley it’s a tough game.”

He added: “You’ve got to be mindful that you’ve got to be switched on to a Brackley Town that are really going to push us and be a difficult game.”

“We don’t guarantee results, we can’t, we know how tough the FA cup is so we’ve just got to go there and be professional and make sure we perform.”

County will be without Rodney McDonald, who picked up a hamstring injury in last weekend’s win over Cambridge, as well as centre-half partner Matty Platt, who despite training during the week will not be ready in time for the upcoming game.

Notts County face Brackley at 5.30pm on Saturday 1 November for a place in the second-round draw.

Brackley Town has reached the second round of the FA Cup on four occasions since 2013-14. County are previous winners of the competition after lifting the trophy in 1894.
