A community has reacted with shock after police launched a murder investigation into the death of 23 year old Stephanie Irons.
Police remain at the location on Westdale Lane West, Mapperley, two days after a 40 year old man was arrested under suspicion of murder after her death.
Multiple areas of Nottingham were cordoned off as armed police swarmed locations linked to the incident, Westdale Lane West, Woodborough Road and a taxi parked outside of Oxclose Lane police station.
The community remains shocked at the events that unfolded.
Chris, 27, owner of Mapperley Booze, which neighbours the crime scene, said: “It is a very emotional situation for everyone involved, they were regular customers and nice people, we don’t ever really get any incidents around here except a stabbing that happened a few months ago.”
“This incident could have happened anywhere, it’s just such a shock to know it happened so locally, it has actually really shaken the community.”

Detective Inspector Stuart Barson, who is overseeing the investigation said: “Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area and residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while our inquiries continue.”
“I’d like to reassure residents that we believe this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.”
The local community is reflecting and coming together, sharing messages and laying flowers at the scene to mark their respect for the woman and all affected at this difficult time.

Maeve Burns, 74, a local resident, said: “I wanted to come and pay my respects by laying flowers, this poor girl was taken from us, it’s the least I could do.”
“We are all so sad to have heard what had happened, it has been a real shock, we never have anything like this happen around here, Mapperley is a quiet, normal area.”
It marks a year to the day on 27 October that a man was stabbed after an attempted robbery in the Mapperley that the area is still reeling from.
The Mapperley community continues to stay strong and hopes that these attacks do not reoccur.
Police are still appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
