The boss of an independent clothing boutique in Nottingham city centre has blamed the ‘tough retail economy’ for its impending closure after nearly 13 years.
Sally Longden took to Instagram to tell followers that her Stick and Ribbon store on Bridlesmith Gate will close in March.
But Sally has assured customers that it does not mean the end of the business which will continue online and as one-off shopping events.
“If half of my followers came in and spent £100 a year, then we wouldn’t be in this situation”

The boutique opened in 2012 and has since grown a loyal clientele and social media presence, offering style analysis and luxury womenswear brands.
The closure follows a tough economic climate for the high street, with retailers blaming the recent government budget and the ongoing cost of living crisis on their consumers’ buying patterns.
Voicing her frustrations with the situation, Sally said despite having a strong Instagram following she needs those people to be present on the high street in order for businesses like hers to survive.
“I’ve had my best business week since our announcement.
“If half of my followers came in and spent £100 a year, then we wouldn’t be in this situation.”

Sally, 58, added: “The way that retail on the high street is at the moment is really difficult.
“With the changes in the last budget, our business rates are going to increase by £10,000, which isn’t a viable situation, so we need to take action now for the longevity of the business.”
Sally has asked followers what they would like to see from the boutique once they leave their current premises on Bridlesmith Gate.
Sally said: “We believe that at the moment people want to be entertained, they want a little bit of excitement.
“The way that the business actually started was pop ups, fashion shows, charity events and ladies lunches, so actually we’re just going back to basics.”
