Many residents on Burlington Road in Sherwood have been impacted by car thefts.

Residents are sharing their experiences of crime on social media to warn others after a spate of incidents.

Multiple vehicles have been stolen in the past month and houses are being targeted in Sherwood.

Lisa Douglas, who has lived in the area near City Hospital for around 25 years, had her Kia E6 damaged as a result of her husband’s BMW 850I being stolen from their driveway on December 6.

She said: “It makes you angry and frustrated because somebody has come onto our property, stole our property and that will have an ongoing effect on us.

“I think people should stay vigilant by making sure car doors and front doors are locked and be aware when you’re walking home at night.”

Her connection to the community as the landlady of The Winchester at Sherwood Business Centre and her husband’s crime security business prompted her to address the widespread issue on the Facebook page, Sherwood in Nottingham Community Group.

Lisa added: “I just want to help protect our local community and do what I can personally because we’ve got a local business here.

“It’s very important to hear about people’s experiences with this crime and raise awareness to people who haven’t experienced anything.

“If we can help one person by sharing our experiences, then I think it’s a job well done.”

Ed Abrams had his Ford Fiesta stolen from outside his house in the early morning of January 15.

He was told by police that his car was seen speeding down Mansfield Road in Sherwood before crashing in Bulwell.

He said: “I never thought that this would happen to me.”

“I’m heartbroken about it and I’m trying to do my best to help the police and find out what happened to my car.”

The SCAMP neighbourhood watch group has been running for around 20 years and leader Colin Barratt has been running the group for 12 years.

Sherwood’s Neighbourhood Watch group SCAMP which also covers Carrington and Mapperley Park have been following reports of the crimes in Sherwood.

The group has around 2,000 members, one of the biggest in the UK, reports crimes which are passed on to the local policing team.

Leader Colin Barratt said: “It’s a pattern that we see these crimes in the community every two years or so.

“I think it’s tremendously important to share about these crimes as we can alert people in almost real-time if there’s an incident going on in the community.”
