Sherwood Library

Campaign group Save Our Services is planning a march and rally on Saturday January 25 to get Sherwood Library open after being closed for more than four years.

The reopening of Sherwood library has been delayed while renovations to create with commercial space and housing were carried out.

The march is set to start at 11am from Sherwood Community Centre

Campaigner Des Conway said the main motivation behind the march is to put pressure on the council to open sooner.

“We hope it opens up by spring this year.

“We expect families and all other folks turn up to come march with us, ” he said.

Des added about the impact it had on the community with people having to travel out of Sherwood to access such an important aspect of the community.

“It means we’ve not had a library for four years and that’s totally unacceptable.”

He also spoke about his own struggles with being able to access libraries around Nottingham due to a mobility issue.

“It takes me a while to get into somewhere else which I’d rather not do”

The library was set to open near the end of 2024 but a new date for summer 2025 is currently being set after defects were discovered and were causing safety problems.
