Nottingham's Agony Aunts are here to help you from dating to work, we'll give you our advice.

Now, we’re no experts, but with a combined age of 63 years of living with our mothers, and more failed relationships than Taylor Swift, we feel as though we have some life experience to offer our concerned readers. Relationships are messy, love is complicated, and frankly, none of us know what we’re doing half the time. But we’re here to stumble through it together.

Dilemmas in life seem to practically throw themselves at some people. If they posted their Wetherspoon table number they’d be sent tons of peas but never any pints. From awkward first-date silences to wondering if they’ll text back, it’s no surprise that navigating modern romance can feel like wading through treacle. We want nothing more than to offer some support to people who feel like life’s debris has been raining down on them lately. You’re not alone, and if we can offer a nugget of advice or just a good laugh to lighten the mood, we’ll consider it a job well done.

Now, let’s hear from one of our readers: “Hi guys, I am a 45-year-old woman and currently struggling with dating. Every time I go on a date, it never really progresses further than the first date. I’ve tried dating apps, but they don’t seem to work. Either they’re not interested in me, or I find them so boring. I am just writing in for some advice to understand how I could change or what I can do to help these dates progress further.”

Firstly, we hear you. Dating in this day and age is like navigating a minefield, except some of the mines ghost you. It’s tough out there.

It’s common knowledge some men don’t seem to, a) read a room, and b) grow up. Sure, it can be a blessing having the immature, fun-loving bloke around until, of course, it’s time to get serious. Dates that don’t progress are a tricky topic because you end up blaming yourself, wondering if it was your outfit, your choice of words, or that experimental new lipstick. More often than not, though, it’s not about you at all.

Meeting someone online and introducing yourself in person can be a daunting challenge to face. Often, it’s unclear what people’s intentions are. Is this a coffee date or an audition? While apps can be a fun way to meet people, make sure you’re crystal clear on what you’re looking for.

Our advice? Get specific. Write down what you really want in a relationship, so you’re not distracted by charming smiles or fancy cars. And remember, your age doesn’t define you, but it’s worth acknowledging that by 40, we’ve all probably picked up some baggage. The key is to embrace the dents and flaws that make us human while being open to someone else’s imperfections.

So, keep the faith! Be yourself, stay open-minded, and don’t let the duds discourage you. There’s someone out there who will love you for you. Remember, sometimes you’ve got to kiss a few frogs to find your prince.

Please note, this is just our light-hearted advice for life’s dilemmas. We are not professionals. Remember you are not in it alone and if you really need to, reach out to someone who can help you.
