The building, which has been empty since 2023, could be turned into student flats soon.

A former McDonald’s branch in the city centre will likely be turned into student flats soon as proposals have been submitted to Nottingham City Council.

Planning documents have revealed that the first and second floor of the building could be turned into a total of 16 student bedrooms, with an extension added above the second floor.

The building would then contain multiple flats with two, three or five bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and one kitchen each.

This comes after the McDonald’s branch closed in the summer of 2023 after their lease expired. The building has since been empty.

One student who asked not to be named said: “I don’t understand why they are building more student flats. My accommodation has a lot of empty rooms, and so do many others.”

She believes the rising prices of student accommodation make people look at the private rental market instead.

The plans are yet to be approved by the council.
