Police have arrested a 36 year old on suspicion of Grievous bodily harm

Police have stepped up patrols in a Notts village following an attack on a man in his 60s which left him “seriously injured and in hospital”.

Detectives have arrested a man in his 30s over the attack which took place close to the Hammer and Wedge Club, in East Lane, Edwinstowe, on Sunday 19 January around 1:25am.

The 36-year-old suspect is alleged to have punched the man in the head and was arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

When asked about the assault, an Edwinstowe resident, Scott Robinson, 55, said: “The word I’d use to describe it is worrying, that things like this can happen in the village I was born and raised in

“It’s worrying that society is allowing this to happen.”

Detective Sergeant Jackie Price said: “Officers have been working hard on the investigation and patrols have increased in the neighbourhood to provide reassurance.

“Despite this arrest, the investigation remains ongoing and we’d still like to hear from anyone who was in the pub that night, or in the area around this time.”
