Mansfield Town’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Trent saw them drop important points in the race for the East Midlands Women Regional Premier League title.

With ten games played Mansfield came into the match sitting in third place, behind Sheffield FC and Chesterfield FC.

On Sunday they faced ninth-place Nottingham Trent University in an important game where a win would have taken them to the top of the league.

But they could not come away with a win, as Trent kept them at bay and the game ended 1-1 with goals from Grace Shipman (Mansfield) and Lou Dealtry-Todd (Nottingham Trent).

Central midfielder Olivia Standeven, who has appeared in every game of the season for Mansfield, said: “We didn’t take our opportunities when they were granted and also didn’t react well enough to second and third balls… we were lucky to get a goal but then should have the chances that came after that.”

The result leaves Mansfield in third with a one-point gap behind the league leaders.

“It definitely puts a lot more pressure on us,” Standeven said. “We need to be catching up with second and first now so that’s what our focus will be.”

Mansfield now have seven games left in the league campaign to fight for the top spot and a County Cup run. But it will be a hard journey behind Chesterfield who are currently unbeaten in the league and have played three less games than Mansfield.

Mansfield’s next game will be at the One Call Stadium on Sunday against Anstey Nomads Women.
