Ten tonnes of rubbish had to be dumped in a car park after a vape caught fire in a bin lorry.

The vehicle caught on fire on Pearson Avenue in Chilwell on Tuesday, January 21, Broxtowe Borough Council said.

First responders from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters from the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene.

The rubbish had to be dumped into a car park nearby, and council workers are cleaning up the mess.

The council believes the fire was caused by a vape in the rubbish and has issued a warning on their Facebook page about the correct disposal of lithium batteries.

The rubbish was discarded in a car park.

Lithium batteries are found in phones, vapes, laptops and vehicles and can very quickly catch on fire. Therefore, they should only be discarded at a dedicated recycling centre.
