Children from King Edwin Primary School in Edwinstowe, out to raise people's spirits

Schoolchildren in Edwinstowe appeared on their local high street to spread positivity.

The children from King Edwin Primary School took to the streets on Blue Monday – supposedly the most depressing day of the year – to give people high fives and get passers-by to honk their horn.

The date was originally published in a press release under the name of Cliff Arnall, who calculated the day using an equation he created.

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (bacp) suggests setting small positive goals that motivate you and to reconnect with others.

With plenty of darkness across January and people being tighter with their money, the pupils hope to relieve some of the stresses of the day.

The school said in a Facebook post: “It’s definitely safe to say that we have raised the spirits of people in Edwinstowe this afternoon.”

The school intends to keep up the positivity and visits throughout this week and has no plans to stop the cheers during January.
