Ahead of Gameweek 22 of the Fantasy Premier League season, we  have a look at the best options regarding transfers, captaincy and chips.

Gameweek 22 has some great fixtures in store, including a huge Double Gameweek for Manchester United and Leeds United.

Last week was very good for FPL, with an average of 65 points across all teams, the third highest of the season so far.

It was an Erling Haaland hat-trick that was the main factor behind this after securing a strong 17 points.

This week, however, will most likely be Haaland’s lowest captaincy percentage of the whole season, with Man United offering two fantastic fixtures in their Double Gameweek.

United take on struggling Crystal Palace and Leeds United, both at Old Trafford, in must win games after suffering a stoppage time defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

The top pick for this week is star man Marcus Rashford.

If he isn’t in your fantasy team ahead of this week, you might as well start on negative points.

Since his remarkable World Cup, Rashford has continued that form for Man United, scoring 5 goals and grabbing 1 assist in 6 games since the break.

Alongside bonus points, he has accumulated a massive 46 points in this time, more than any other midfielder since the World Cup.

He’s my captain for the double and will no doubt be many others’ too. A double digit haul seems inevitable.

The second pick is yet again another United player, Luke Shaw, who has reignited his season under Ten Hag since the world cup break.

Priced at a short 5.2 million, it makes him easy to slot in your team if you haven’t already made your transfers. Only being selected in 22.2% of teams, Shaw is also a great differential.

Their two fixtures against Palace and Leeds are sure chances of United getting at least one clean sheet, whilst Shaw also offers an attacking threat since Lisandro Martinez has returned to the side in the central role, pushing Shaw back out to his favoured left-back position.

My third and final pick is not specifically one player, it’s ensuring you have at least two of Arsenal’s front line; Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli or Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal have a Double Gameweek the following week (Gameweek 23), so it is vital that you have this in mind when making selections this week to avoid having to take a minus four point hit to fit two of them in.

Arsenal are flying and scoring for fun, so not having their star players means missing out on crucial point.

Ranking them on preference, I would pick Saka, Odegaard, Nketiah (Forward) then Martinelli (now at risk of rotation with new signing Leandro Trossard).

FPL expert, Ben Scammell, gave us updates on the plans for his team this Gameweek and his captaincy plans.

Ben is ranked 11,760th in the world, and out of a pool of 11 millions players this is incredibly impressive.

He said: “I’m planning to take out [Mo] Salah and [Miguel] Almiron and bring in [Bruno] Fernandes and Brighton’s [Kaoru] Mitoma. Salah and Almiron have crashed in their scoring so I need to get them out.”

“My top pick would be Rashford, the Double Gameweek is a great opportunity for him to continue his form.”

“In terms of captaincy I am toying between Rashford and Fernandes, it will be a very late decision and I can see how they do in the cup game against Forest.”

It is clear that Fernandes and Rashford are the two captaincy options, with Bruno offering the differential bonus of only being owned by 7% but Rashford offering the attacking threat and being likely to score more points.

Wildcard and triple captain chips could be used effectively this week especially if we get goals galore from Man United.

If you are using your wildcard, ensure you look ahead at the bigger picture, plan transfers for future weeks and don’t just focus on making a strong team for Gameweek 22 that is useless then in 23.

Good luck!
