The Bay under the lights

Nottingham Rugby have had a poor season so far and they face high-flying Jersey Reds on Friday night at The Bay.

Nottingham are 10th in the RFU Championship, just one place off the bottom of the table, whilst Jersey Reds are up in third and just three points off the top of the table.

Nottingham are a massive 30 points behind The Reds and have won just one in their last six games.

Head Coach Craig Hammond spoke to Nottingham Rugby media, he said: “We need to challenge ourselves against the best which we have been doing and we’ve been putting gin performances but just not quite coming away with the results we want.

“We’re asking boys to put in some big shifts and they’re responding really well and there’s been some standout performances.”

The two sides have yet to play each other this season, they last played back in April 2021 when Jersey Reds demolished Nottingham 55-12 at the Stade Santander International.

Club captain Josh Poullet returns to the side from injury in a boost for Hammond and his team.

Hammond said: “The return of Poullet to the squad is huge. He’s a great bloke and does a lot for the club on and off the field. He’s worked hard to come back from injury so were excited to see him out there again.

“There’s tough competition in the midfield but Simonds has come in and put his hand up for selection which makes for some tough calls but were happy to welcome him back.”

Kick off is at 7:45 tomorrow at The Bay, tickets for the match are available here.
