A 10-year-old boy is looking forward to an extra special birthday after being diagnosed with leukaemia.
Riley’s Leukaemia Fundraiser was set up on GoFundMe by his step-grandmother, Emma Moran, with an initial target of £500, after he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in August last year.
Since then more than £2,000 has been raised for Riley’s birthday bash, which takes place on Sunday 6 February at the Top Valley Social Club.
“Initially we wanted to raise enough funds to get him a Bugatti Lego set,” Emma said, “It was kind of like the acorn that grew the mighty oak.
“It picked up pace really quick, and we thought we should do something special for him.
“At the moment he’s responding well to treatment, he’s much more like what a 10-year-old should be and his personality is shining through.”
The event certainly will be special, as they have organised for a live DJ to play, as well as having a tombola, hook-a-duck, homemade cake stand and even a stall where everything costs £1!
There is also signed Nottingham Forest and Panthers shirts on eBay, which close on Sunday 6 February at 4pm, and a raffle with 142 confirmed prizes.
Emma said: “It has really brought the community together.
“We thought it was best to hold it in his Top Valley where Riley lives with his mum and sister, but I live in Langley Mill and I’ve even got some of my friends coming.”
Riley was diagnosed just a day after he tested positive for Covid-19, after a purple spotty rash appeared on his body.
Riley has undergone chemotherapy, as well as bone marrow and lumbar puncture.
Donations can be made on the GoFundMe page.
