With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the daunting feeling of being alone for yet another year can hit us all, so what better time to get yourself on a dating app with a picture that helps you find love at first sight?
This year lets ditch the catfishes and find the person we’ve all been waiting for.
Gemma Wilks, head shot photographer hosts Nottingham’s number one single night through her business ‘We Just Clicked.’
These events are running through Valentine’s month from February 7 to February 11 at The Brewhouse Bar & Kitchen.
Gemma said: “My singles events are about getting out of the house and off your dating apps for the evening.
“There is no pressure as it’s just social mingling with board games to play, icebreakers and conversation prompt cards for people to use.
“One of the events I held last month resulted in two sets of couples going on future dates which shows its working.”
Each night is dedicated to different age categories.
Gemma added: “The events next week are all centred around fire pits with marshmallows and prosecco, these evenings are just an intimate chit chat with single people and it’s really lovely to see.”
Gemma Wilks uses her business Photography by Gem to work her match-making magic through her dating photos, with the aim to ditch the conventional bathroom selfie to photos that will get you noticed.
Gemma said: “I set the business up because when I was dating for two years, the photos on peoples profiles were shocking often I’d turn up to a date and the photo on the profile would be so dated.
“Your dating profile is essentially a form of marketing and if you’re not creating a great impression chances are people will swipe right
“You could be the perfect match but because of the poor photo people won’t give you a chance.”
During these photoshoots, Gemma focuses on: “Capturing the true essence of someone and the trust in their eyes with the importance of good lighting.
“Its not about what you look like its just that a good quality photo stands out and gets you noticed.”

From her personal experience of professional photographs, Gemma met her partner of five and a half years Jamie who she met on Tinder in 2016.
She said: “It worked for me, my partner had professional photos on his main Tinder picture and it really caught my eye.
“It may not have done if he didn’t have a photo of such good quality, I remember to this day exactly what he wore, he looked amazing.”
When discussing her business’s success she said: “I’ve got a client whose planning his wedding with his fiancé who he met through a dating app using the photograph I took of him.
“Key thing is people message me saying they’re getting more dates and they’ve definitely noticed more action on their dating profile and believe its because of their photos.”
If a lover is what you’re after this Valentine’s, or just the chance to meet someone new then there really is no time like the present.
