Nothing quite compares to the thick, chocolatey goodness of Nutella, and we are all guilty of dunking our spoons straight into the jar and taste the sweetness.

These homemade treats and bakes are the best way to enjoy the chocolate-hazelnut spread and celebrate World Nutella Day on 5th February 2022. 

Nutella banana bread  

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar 
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar 
  • 1/2 cup butter unsalted, melted 
  • 2 eggs 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla 
  • 4 medium bananas, mashed 
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 
  • 1 teaspoon salt 
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda 
  • 3/4 cup Nutella 

Line a loaf tin with parchment paper and preheat oven to 180 degrees. 

Combine the sugars and melted butter together.

Add in 2 eggs, vanilla and mashed bananas, stirring well. 

Stir in flour, salt and baking soda just until no flour remains and your left with a thick batter. 

Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. 

Microwave the Nutella until it has a thin, runny consistency.

Drizzle ½ of the Nutella evenly over the batter. Use a knife to swirl the Nutella into the batter. 

Add the rest of the batter into the pan and drizzle the remaining Nutella over the top of the batter and swirl into the batter the same way as above. 

Bake for 40-50 minutes until a cake tester or knife comes out with moist crumbs remaining. 

Let cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool. 

Nutella brownies  

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened 
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar 
  • 2 large eggs 
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 
  • 1 and 1/4 cups Nutella, divided 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 
  • Chocolate chips 

Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

Line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on all sides to easily lift the brownies out of the pan when cool.  

Beat the butter on high speed in a large bowl until smooth and creamy.

Add the brown sugar and beat on high speed for 1-2 minutes. 

Add the eggs and vanilla extract and beat on medium-high speed until combined, then mix in 1 cup Nutella and salt.

Mix until smooth and fluffy. Add the flour, mixing just until combined.

Fold in chocolate chips. 

Pour the batter into prepared baking pan and drizzle the remaining Nutella on top.

Using a knife, swirl the Nutella into the batter and top with a sprinkle of sea salt. 

Bake the brownies for 30-40 minutes, to check when cooked test with a toothpick or knife, it should have just a few moist crumbs on.  

Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. 

Once cool, lift the foil out of the pan using the overhang on the sides and cut into squares.

These brownies are best served with vanilla ice cream. 

Nutella hot chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups skimmed milk 
  • 2 tablespoons Nutella 
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder 
  • 2 tablespoons sugar 

Optional Toppings: 

  • Marshmallows 
  • Whipped cream 
  • Crushed hazelnuts
  • Chocolate Sprinkles 

Heat milk in a medium sized saucepan on medium-high heat until beginning to warm and steam.

Add the spread, cocoa powder and sugar, and whisk until dissolved and combined.

Bring to a gentle simmer while stirring and then take off heat. 

Pour into your favourite mug and serve with your desired toppings. 

Nutella covered strawberries  

Ingredients:

  • 1 punnet of strawberries, washed and dried completely 
  • 1/2 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips 
  • 1/3 cup Nutella 
  • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream 

Bring a pan of water to boil, only one quarter full.

Place a big glass mixing bowl ontop of your pan and heat the chocolate chips and the Nutella on medium heat.  

Heat the cream in a separate bowl in a microwave until it is bubbly. Pour into the chocolate mixture. 

With a rubber spatula, gently stir and combine until it is smooth and glossy.  

Making sure the strawberries are completely dry, take the strawberries and dip them one by one.

Place them on non-stick parchment paper and allow to cool completely and then refrigerate until you are ready to eat them.
