The animal that symbolizes the Chinese New Year in 2022 is the Tiger.

Whether you are looking to celebrate with your family or by yourself, this holiday definitely comes to everyone’s interest – even if you are not aware of the Chinese holiday.

The year starts on February 1, 2022 and it ends on January 21, 2023 – previous years represented by the Tiger are: 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, and so on.

There are 12 animals that represent the festivity every year, these are (in chronological order): Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.

According to a Chinese legend, Jade Emperor organized a race between various animals to determine which would be selected to be named after the 12 calendar years – the 12 that arrived first were the ones selected.

The rat was the first one to complete the race and the pig was the last of the 12 to finish it – the tiger came in third.

In Chinese culture it is believed that the animal that symbolized your birth year can give an insight into the characteristics that define you as yourself.

People born in the Year of the Tiger – an animal known as “the king of all beasts” in China – are characterised by their braveness, strength, competitiveness, enthusiasm, and charisma.

The celebration usually starts a day before the new year and ends on the 15th day of the new year – on the Lantern Festival.
