WBA Featherweight champion Leigh Wood defends his belt for the first time against Michael Conlan’s unbeaten record at the Motorpoint Arena on 12th March.

Gedling born Wood has lost twice in his 27-fight career and Conlan has not lost any of his 18 professional fights.

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that Wood isn’t far from a fight at the Nottingham Forest stadium:

‘The atmosphere is going to be unbelievable. Leigh is on the brink of becoming a big, big name in the sport and could probably open doors to a big fight at the City Ground.’

This will be Wood’s first title defence since winning the featherweight world championship against Xu Can last July in an upset that ended with a 12th round technical knockout.

Conlan’s last fight came against TJ Doheny in WBA Interim title fight back in August.

Surprisingly Conlan believes he will have the stadium’s support:

‘I’ll probably have more people in the arena than Leigh Wood

Everybody loves an away-day, it’s the third month of the year and I could see a lot of people travelling over. I think they’ll have a great night.’

Tickets went on sale on Thursday 20th January having sold out, it is expected that 3,000 people will travel across the Irish sea to witness this domestic fight.

The fight will be broadcast live on DAZN.
