A Nottinghamshire chip shop has been given a zero out of five in the food hygiene ratings.

The Food Standards Agency has given out the rating to Brinsely Fish Bar, at 124 Church Lane, following the agency’s inspection on December 17, 2021.

Brinsely Fish Bar assures quality in their products and say they achieve the highest hygiene rating year after year, their website says.

The rating comes as a surprise given that the shop has a 4.6-star rating from 377 reviews on Google Reviews.

Some of the reviewers include Joan Dennis, who nine months ago said: “This fish and chip shop makes living up here well worth it.

“It takes me back to my Northern Childhood when they knew how to make fish and chips.

“The staff are super friendly too so an added bonus.

“Well done you guys, you really nailed it.”

Both the hygienic food handling and the management of food safety have been found to need a major improvement.

The cleanliness and condition of facilities and building have been found to be in need of improvement.
