Nottingham Forest currently has four players out on loan, consisting of Carl Jenkinson, Nuno Da Costa, Tyrese Fornah and Nicholas Ioannou.
The younger, loaned players seem to be elsewhere with the aim to gain more experience, whilst the older loans have either been told they were not part of Forest’s plans or not receiving enough game time.
Here is an overview of how each player is currently doing at their temporary club:
- Carl Jenkinson, on loan to Melbourne City
Jenkinson – who signed for the club in August 2019 – has found it difficult to feature throughout his time at Forest.
Since he has arrived, Forest have gone through managers Sabri Lamouchi and Chris Hughton, with both only using him as a rotational player.
At the end of last season, The Athletic reported that Jenkinson told he was not in Hughton’s plans and free to leave the club.
In earlier this month, Jenkinson joined Australian A-League side Melbourne City in a surprise loan move until the end of the season.
After his recent arrival, the 29-year-old was able to stamp his Melbourne mark early, after coming on as a substitute in the 68th minute to make his debut against Central Coast Mariners.
It did not take him long, as he scored from close range in the 84th minute, after some scrappy exchanges.
- Nuno Da Costa, on loan to Caen
Da Costa, 30, made his debut at the City Ground in a 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic on February 11.
He signed for Forest on in January 2020 and just days after his debut, he was injured in an under-23 game against Crewe Alexandra.
Last season, Da Costa was loaned to Belgian First Division A side Royal Excel Mouscron.
In his time with the Belgian team, he scored six goals including both of a 2–2 home draw with OH Leuven on December 15.
On 31 August 2021, Da Costa was loaned out again for a year, returning to the French Ligue 2 at Caen.
The forward made his debut for Caen in a 0-1 home defeat against Grenoble Foot 38, on October 30.
His first goal for the French side came in the French cup against Dinan Léhon, which Caen went on to lose in a penalty shoot-out 4-1.
This season, the Cape Verde international has performed better, scoring three goals in his eight outings, as Caen sit in 16th position.
- Tyrese Fornah, on loan to Shrewsbury Town
Fornah is a Nottingham Forest youth product, who joined following his release from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2018.
The 22-year-old made his professional debut for the Reds on January 5, 2020, coming on as a substitute in the 69th minute against Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup.
After a short loan spell in 2020 for LigaPro side Casa Pia – where he made only five appearances – he was loaned out again to Plymouth Argyle for the 2020-21 season.
At Plymouth, the defensive midfielder made 44 appearances in total, as they finished 18th last season.
In the January transfer window of this year, Fornah joined another League One team in Shrewsbury Town on January 18.
- Nicholas Ioannou, on loan to Como
Ionnaou, 26, joined the Reds on September 25, 2020, after spending six seasons at APOEL.
The left back made his debut for the Reds on October 3, in a 2–1 defeat to Bristol City.
The Cypriot was then loaned to Greek Super League side Aris in January 2021 – just three months after his arrival – where he made ten appearances and scored one goal.
After that loan spell, Ioannou had joined Serie B side Como on a season-long loan deal on July 5, 2021. This season he has made 16 appearances, as the team currently sit in 11th in the league.
