A father and his young son who tragically died in a multiple vehicle collision have been named by Nottinghamshire Police.

John Woodcock, 44, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, known as Dan to family and friends, and his two-year-old son Louis, died in hospital following the accident on Chesterfield Road in Mansfield, near to the junction with Pleasley Hill.

The incident occurred just after 6.10pm on Saturday 15 January 2022.

Det Insp Clare Gibson, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with their family who continue to be provided with support by specialists officers at this difficult time.”

“We continue to investigate the full circumstances and our appeal for information remains. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who  has dash-cam footage is urged to please get in touch.”

The incident is believed to have involved three vehicles.

The driver of one of the other cars involved was also taken to hospital where he currently remains. However his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
