Nottingham Forest and Mansfield town will be in the draw for the third-round of FA Cup fixtures, provided Mansfield beat Doncaster tomorrow. The draw for this round of fixtures will take place on Monday, with Forest number 31 and Mansfield number 54.
Mansfield are not nearly the lowest ranked side in the competition, with Buxton the lowest placed side, currently fourth in the Northern Premier. Both teams will want to progress further and their fans will be hoping for either a fixture against a similar level side, or a revenue boost from hosting a Premier League club.
Forest are entering into the competition in this round and will be hoping for a solid cup run to add a little impetus to their season, where they are currently floundering in 16th in the Championship.
Mansfield defeated Sunderland in the first round thanks to a Rhys Oates winner and face Doncaster Rovers tomorrow, to progress through to the third round draw.
If Mansfield do progress, there are a number of lower-league sides remaining who they could face.
Yeovil, Stevenage, Buxton, Harrogate, Gateshead, Boreham Wood, Halifax, Lincoln, Hartlepool, Wimbledon, Cheltenham and Barrow are all potential lower league opposition.
Forest will be hoping for the sort of campaign which saw them put four past Arsenal back in 2018, having had relatively little in the way of cup progression in recent years.
If the two sides face one another, it will be just the fourth time they have ever faced each other, and the first FA Cup fixture since 1953.
