Finally after a long awaited 12 months, it’s time to put the Christmas Tunes on!
For all the festive people out there, Christmas songs are a key part into uplifting people’s spirits and bringing communities together in December, especially this winter while we are in the middle of a pandemic.
We were curious to find out the people of Nottingham’s opinions on various popular songs and which they consider to be their favourite Christmas anthems.
A poll was conducted across Nottingham and here’s the results:
- All I Want for Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
- Driving home for Christmas – Chris Rea
- Fairytale of New York – The Pogues, Kirsty MacColl
- Last Christmas – Wham!
- Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
A fun fact is that Mariah Carey’s classic Christmas anthem ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ reached number one on the Billboard top 100 for the first time last year – 20 years after it was first released!
There were a few honourable mentions – Nancy Grace Smith from Nottingham said: “My favourite is – The Power of Love – Frankie Goes to Hollywood.”
Others mentioned the Ariana Grande Christmas album as well as Band Aid’s classic ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’
Christmas songs are a fundamental part of the 12 days of Christmas, with people getting more involved in the festive spirit and ready to celebrate in this time of giving!
