Nottingham Forest U23s host Birmingham in the Professional Development League next Monday, looking to increase their lead at the top of the table.
League leaders Forest host 6th–placed Birmingham on Monday December 14th. The Reds have only lost one game this season after a shock 4-2 defeat away against Swansea City a couple of weeks ago.
Since the defeat, Forest have bounced back well, winning their last two games and scoring seven goals in the process.
Although Birmingham sit 6th, The Blues will prove difficult opposition for Forest, securing impressive wins away at both Swansea and Colchester in their last five games.
However, Birmingham have the worst defensive record in the league, conceding 21 goals in the nine games they’ve played so far this season. This poor defensive record coupled with the Reds’ sharpness in front of goal may cause some serious problems for City. Forest are top scorers in the PDL North with 28 in 10 this season.
The last two meetings between these sides both ended in victory for Nottingham Forest U23s, winning 3-1 and 3-2. Birmingham’s shaky defence has cost them before against Forest and it still looks like cause for concern. You would have to go back to 2018 to find the last time Birmingham secured victory over Forest.
Despite the club’s recent poor record against the Reds, all three of Birmingham City U23s’ wins this season have come away from home – if they can replicate their good away form at the City Ground next Monday, they have a real chance of ending their current losing streak.
Forest will stay top of the league even if the game ends in defeat, but the reigning PDL North champions will be looking to maintain their three-point lead over Hull City with a win.
