Police are investigating the death of a woman, whose body was found at a house in Edwinstowe.

Nottinghamshire Police were called at around 3pm on Wednesday 5 February 2020 to a property at Birkland Drive and officers remain at the scene.

Members of the public reported seeing police cars, ambulances and fire engines, and the road had been cordoned off.

A fire investigation unit is also at the scene and a forensics tent has been erected outside the property.

One witness also reported seeing a team of gas engineers at the property, but it is not known if their presence is directly related to the incident.

Inspector Heather Sutton, District Commander for Newark and Sherwood, has offered reassurance to Edwinstowe residents as the investigation into the woman’s death continues.

Inspector Sutton said: “We are still working to establish the circumstances around the death and we will need to wait for the results of the post-mortem examination, which can take time. I would like to reassure people that at this time, I have no concerns about the safety of people Edwinstowe.”
