Trinity Goldsmith's jewellery shop in Nottingham city centre.

Burglars were left empty handed after breaking into Trinity Goldsmith’s jewellery shop on Foreman Street.

The intruders broke into the internal walls overnight between Wednesday and Thursday December 5.

Another neighbouring property was damaged as the suspects removed bricks from a wall to gain access to the jewellers.

Det Insp Ed Cook, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “A team of detectives is now working hard on this investigation and we are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry.”

The burglars were stopped in their tracks as they set off the shops ‘smoke cloak’ device.

These devices fill a room with dense smoke within seconds and being used as a popular deterrent in jewellery shops up and down the country.

Police have now issued a statement asking for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 7 of 5 December 2019, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
