Nottingham Rugby are looking to kick on in their Championship Cup campaign against the London Scottish who return to The Bay for the second time in as many months.
The Exiles have enjoyed a strong cup campaign so far this season, topping Nottingham’s group with wins against the Green and Whites, the Cornish Pirates and Yorkshire Carnegie in the cup already.
However, Nottingham got their cup campaign back on track last weekend with an impressive win against the high-flying pirates who had been a bit of a bogey team for the Green and Whites this season.
League form also favours Nottingham who came out on top when the sides last met at The Bay in their first home Championship game of the season.
It was a close-run affair with Nottingham edging Scottish by just three points. Luke Peters and Luke Cole were the try scorers for the Green and Whites whilst Tom Matthews was in good form with his kicks, converting both on top of his early penalty kick.
Luke Hibberd and Harry Barnes’ tries were not enough for the visitors as they fell just short of what could’ve been an important away win for the Exiles. The final score on the day: 17-14 to the Green and Whites.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Green and White’s head coach Neil Fowkes said: “We’re trying to find the right balance between giving everyone some game time and providing some continuity from what a good win against the Pirates on Sunday.”
“As we know in the modern game, all 23 (players) are so vital that they’re all up there playing good minutes in the game.”
A win for the Green and Whites on Sunday could see Nottingham jump into second in Pool 3 of the Championship Cup and move just behind Scottish in the table.
