After last year’s dream promotion to the top division of National League Basketball, Nottingham Trent University have not had the best start.
Failing to earn points against Reading, Southwark Pride, Anglia Ruskin University and Ipswich showed everyone just how large the jump between the divisions can be.
Captain Vicky Gray said: “It was always going to be a big step up from Division Two, this year we want to be as competitive as possible and establish ourselves as a Division One team.”
Sitting second from bottom in the table, it was hoped at the start of the season that the addition of scholars Noelle Van Zadelhoff, Tereza Sedlakova and Arielle Jackson as well as GB player Tia Freeman would strengthen the squad.
Point guard Arielle said that she was ‘still getting used to the English game’ and, with a large proportion of the team still learning the ways of English basketball, Vicky added ‘once we get one in the bag there will be nothing stopping us’.

She said: “So far we have had a pretty tough schedule playing most of the top teams back to back. We have come up short by fine margins and are on a bit of a losing streak but we have certainly proven that this league is where we belong.”
The team are set to travel away to Southampton on Saturday to face Team Solent Kestrels for a 3pm tip and hope to put some points on the board.
