The East Coast Mainline

Trains between Newark Northgate and Grantham were cancelled this morning (November 5) and other lines were diverted after a major incident on the East Coast Mainline.

East Midlands Trains, Hull Trains, London North Eastern Railway and Grand Central lines were all affected after emergency services were called to the scene in Grantham, causing severe delays to passengers.

British Transport Police told Lincolnshire Live they were called to Grantham Station at around 7.30am regarding a casualty on the tracks, and paramedics confirmed that a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious,” a spokespeson said.

Services were briefly suspended between Skegness and Nottingham, and Mansfield and Norwich on the East Midlands Train line, but later reopened.

However National Rail warned of “significant delay times of up to 90 minutes” and possible cancellations to services.

Disruptions were anticipated to continue until around 1pm.
