Celebrations are continuing this week as Nottingham welcomes the Year of the Pig for Chinese New Year. Here are our tips for the tastiest food in the city.

The Mandarin Restaurant

After gaining a four star-rating on Trip Advisor, The Mandarin Restaurant is first on our list of places to go for some real Chinese grub this year.

It was first established in 1994 but reopened in 2004 on Belward Street, Hockley. Where it is known extremely well for its flawless Dim Sum.

With an open planned, and light decor within the restaurant, The Mandarin offers a real Oriental feel, with lovely staff, cheap drinks and a deliciously varied menu.

This Chinese restaurant is best known for serving Sichuan cuisine. Which is known as food from the ‘Heavenly Country’ in the South-West of China.

Full of bold flavours, natural resources and a bunch of positive reviews from many critics. Including a four-star rating on Trip Advisor.

Located in Goose Gate, Hockley, the set-up inside the restaurant is not as spacious or comfortable as The Mandarin Restaurant – but that definitely redeems itself through the quality of the food.

U Canteen

Recommended frequently, U Canteen based on Heathcoat Street, Hockley serves cuisine favourites to their consistently-satisfied customers.

Coming with a small, and very homely feel restaurant, this place feels more like a hidden gem than anything else.

Trip Advisor have rated U Canteen a very solid four-and-a-half stars out of five. Which is understandably deserved once you have eaten at this place.

Chungs of Mapperley

This place has an excellent rating of five stars on Trip Advisor. This restaurant may not exactly look the part when you are stood outside, but when you step inside you are welcomed by a group of friendly, enthusiastic and classically oriental staff.

Being best known for their ribs and prawn toast, this place gets the essentials spot-on.

Although it is not quite as cheap as the other listed places, it is definitely worth visiting Chungs of Mapperley on Woodborough Road.

Mayfair Chinese Restaurant

Coming with a four-and-a-half star Trip Advisor rating, the Mayfair Chinese Restaurant is very popular amongst the Nottingham locals.

With a vegan option on the menu, this place is accessible for everyone. Whilst you are allowed to take your own alcohol and soft drinks, the food makes up for that – delivering a delicious sweet chilli fish and spicy squid.

Mayfair Chinese is one that is really worth visiting, being located on Mansfield Road, it is more than local for those near the City Centre.
