Chinese New Year celebrations kick off this week in Nottingham

The Year of the Pig is almost here and Nottingham is ready to join in the festivities with a host of events.

Market Square will be transformed into a Chinese New Year Temple Fair on Saturday, February 2 from 10.30am till 5.30pm.

This is the fourth year the event is running and it is supported by the Asia Business centre and Nottingham Confucius Institute.

Activities will include calligraphy and brush painting classes, dancing as well as music. Featuring the traditional Chinese Dragon Dance and of course, Chinese food.

Nottingham Lakeside Arts has a host of events throughout February, the highlight being a exhibition by ceramicist Katrin Moye and the UKYA: Yiyuan Tang Art Shake.

Saturday February, 16 also marks the return of the seventh Si Yuan Cup Table Tennis Tournament held at the David Ross Sports Village. Open to the public.

Nottingham residents can also attend the Chinese New Year Gala on Saturday February 9 and Sunday February 10.

It will feature exciting performances by professional artists such as Chinese Erhu, Guzheng and Bamboo Flute Music followed by a demonstration of Kung-Fu routines.
