Book lovers flocked to the new shop on West Bridgford’s High Street on its opening day.
On Saturday, 8 December, West Bridgford welcomed the UK’s first ever purple Waterstone’s to its town centre.
The opening ceremony drew in large crowds of customers and shop assistants say the flow of customers has barely slowed down since.
Rushcliffe Borough Councillor for Radcliffe-on-Trent, Roger Upton had the honour of cutting the ribbon and officially opening the popular bookstore to the public.
Polis Loizou-Denyer, who works at Waterstones said: “Saturday was extremely busy, there were crowds gathering outside and we were rammed throughout the day.”
As Christmas approaches, Polis says there have been a lot of festive shoppers in-store looking to buy stocking fillers.
The most popular purchases since opening have been children’s books, in particular The Ice Monster by David Walliams and Michelle Obama’s autobiography, Becoming Michelle Obama.
Waterstone stores that are located throughout the UK are traditionally black in colour, however, the new West Bridgford store differs at it is in the colour purple.
“The store looks great inside and out.”
