Newly-signed Notts all-rounder Paul Coughlin will have surgery on his right shoulder on Wednesday after damaging it while away with the England Lions.
Since joining from Durham in September, Coughlin, 25, has impressed the Lions coach Andy Flower on tour in Australia before the Christmas period, as well as in the Caribbean in February and March.
Coughlin will certainly miss the start of the season which begins on the April 13 and Nottinghamshire have not set a return date so far for the all-rounder to return.
The injury occurred on the Lions’ unofficial one-day international against the West Indies/ The former Durham player had no choice but to be forced off the field after landing awkwardly when diving for the ball.
Notts Head Coach Peter Moores said: “He’s got a fairly long journey back into fitness and we all feel for him because he’d just joined a new club and made a really good impression in terms of his ability and how he’s been around the other lads.
“We all feel for him and will support him all the way through so that when he is ready to come back, he comes back with a bang because we know we are going to get a very good player.”
Notts are next in action on Friday, March 29 when they play Northamptonshire in a friendly at the Notts Sports Club.
