13:31 – UBER CRACKS DOWN ON SAFETY – Taxi company Uber are currently changing the way they operate amid concerns relating to safety at the end of last year.
Their new initiative includes several measures to improve safety including:
- Licensing Checks: Every driver who uses the app in the UK must go through a licensing process with a local authority, which includes a background check and will now give we will give riders across the UK the licensing authority and private hire licence number of their driver in both their electronic receipt and on their booking confirmation.
- Driver Hours Feature: Drivers have to go offline for six straight hours after 10 hours of time on a trip with a passenger or on their way to pick up a passenger after confirming a trip request. After the six hours, drivers can go online again to receive trip requests.
- Location Sharing: Riders can share their location with loved ones, drivers can now do the same.
- Reporting serious incidents to the police: Uber will pass directly to the police information about any serious incident reported by riders. If a driver is a victim of a serious incident, they will also report it to the police if the driver wants them to do so on their behalf.

12:21 – BREAKING: TOYS R’ US HIT WITH £15M VAT BILL – Popular toy shop, Toys R’ Us has been hit with a huge tax bill which could see them crashing into administration at the end of the month.
The company are desperately trying to secure a rescue deal as the business has a 27 February deadline to clear the bill.
Sources have said the company will ‘work through this weekend’ in an effort to progress talks with potential bidders.
The company currently has two Nottingham stores – one located in the Victoria Centre, and another at Riverside Retail Park.

10:24 – OFGEM LAUNCHES PROBE INTO BEESTON COMPANY – The energy watchdog Ofgem have launched an investigation into Iresa to see whether they have breached their licence conditions and Consumer Complaints Handling Standards relating to treating customers fairly, complaints and call handling, customer switching, providing refunds and consideration of customers’ ability to pay when in debt.
10:18 – BREAKING: CAR CRASHES INTO HOME – A family of five were trapped inside their Meadows home after a car crashed into their front door. Police were called to the incident shortly after 9am today on Wilford Crescent. There are no reports of injuries at the moment but keep checking back for any updates.
10:07 – CHINESE NEW YEAR: It’s Chinese New Year! Today marks the historical event and a new restaurant is opening in West Bridgford today. Chao Chao on Melton Road is a brand new Urban Oriental kitchen and Chinese takeaway, which intends to offer vegan and gluten free options within a few weeks of opening.
