As bargain retailer B&M releases their ‘fuss free’ approach to Valentine’s Day, CBJ Target gives you the lowdown to all the possible alternatives to February 14 in Nottingham.

1 What a bargain!
Anyone looking for a quick, simple and cheap Valentine’s Day should head to B&M Bargains in two weeks time, with a packet of Skips for starters, a pair of Uncle Ben’s Sweet and Sour Rice time pots for mains, some Blue Dragon Prawn Crackers and a Bird’s Strawberry Trifle for desserts – for only £3.88, a night in without splashing out may be the way to go.

2How about a ‘McValentines’?
£20 per couple, fast food chain McDonald’s are offering their version of the day with their “McValentine’s” three course special with time slots of 7, 8 and 9pm on offer.

3For the Singletons…
If you’re entering the big day with no partner at your side, Saltbox Bar and Pepper Rocks will both hope to ensure you don’t finish the day alone with their speed dating night.

4Take me out?
Scottish indie rock band Franz Ferdinand will be hoping to spice up Valentine’s Day as they take to the stage at Rock City, and there are sure to be playing their single ‘Take Me Out’ in commemoration of the day.

5Fancy a tune?
‘Love is in the air’ as John Paul Young says so why not get in the spirit by joining Beeston Tuneless choir at the Chilwell Road Methodist Church and for £5, you can bring your valentine or someone you love as your guest.

6Get your detective work up to scratch
Anyone with a little bit of Sherlock Holmes in them, can become a detective for the evening. Although not landing on Valentine’s Day, National Justice Museum on High Pavement invites you to study clues, question the suspects and hunt the museum’s darkest corners for the killer – with a cocktail on hand at arrival for just £19.95 on Friday, February 9 between 7pm and 9.30pm.
