British Number 1 tennis star Johanna Konta is set to play in the Nottingham Open later this year.

The world number eleven will return to the event, where she was a runner up in 2017, as part of a hat-trick of grass tournaments in the run up to Wimbledon.

“I’m so excited to be returning to play these fantastic tournaments in the summer”, Konta said upon the announcement.

“The grass court season is one of my favourites and nothing compares to competing at home with passionate fans, friends and family who are behind you all the way.”

Konta enjoyed a string of success in 2017, winning the Miami Open and getting to the semi-finals of Wimbledon – becoming the first British woman to do so since Virginia Wade in 1979.

The former world number four will also compete in tournaments in Birmingham and Eastbourne.

“As always I know there will be a really strong player field at Nottingham, Birmingham and Eastbourne and I’ll face some tough opponents in competitive matches, but I can’t wait to get on court and fly the flag for British tennis”, Konta added.

Tickets for the Nottingham Open, as well as the other grass tournaments, will be available from 10.00am on Friday, February 9 via
