Residents around Peel Street have spoken of their shock following the death of a woman yesterday (January 29).
A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after a woman was confirmed to have died at the scene.
The road remains closed with a police cordon in place as officers continue their investigation.
Rea Ledgister, 20, of Alpha Terrace, was one of the first people on the scene.
“It’s quite shocking to see how it can just happen pretty much on your doorstep.”
“I was on my way to my placement and usually leave about ten past, which is when the incident happened, and it happened about ten or 20 minutes before I got there. I was just so shocked.”
“I just missed it but I was thinking if I left at that time, it could have been anyone.”
She added: “I saw all the emergency services get there and at first I saw the fire engine so I thought it was a fire, I didn’t know it was so serious.”
Ik Alexander, 22, who lives just inside the cordon on North Sherwood Street, said:
“I just saw a lot of police yesterday and had to ask around for what had happened.”
“Everywhere is on lockdown still so it must be pretty serious and I hope it gets resolved soon”
Betty Pearce, 80, was attempting to visit her son on Peel Street:
“I’ve been trying to get through the cordon but because it’s so big I’ve been walking all over the place.”
“I thought I’d ask them what happened but there was no way they were going to let me through the cordon, I only want to see my son.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the moments before it happened, is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 212 of 29 January 2018
