Market Square temporarily turns into construction site as the public await the return of the winter wonderland

The construction for the popular winter wonderland in the heart of the city is well underway as it look set to open on Friday the 17th this month

The renowned annual Christmas market that comes to Old Market Square and Long Row, is soon to be back and will be bigger and better than ever, according to the event organisers, the Mellors group.

With over 60 themed stalls and a brand new Après Ski bar, the festive attraction is sure to be another hit.

The Mellors groups also claim that this year’s wonderland will host the UKs largest ice bar as well as a larger ice rink, with nearly 750m2 of real ice that will be home for the 60ft Christmas tree.

Workers are currently hard at work ensuring the attraction will be ready for its opening, Nottingham themed ice sculptures will also be delivered to Market Square closer to the time.

Edward Mellor said: “We’re turning it up a notch.

“After work it will undoubtedly be the place to meet up this festive season.”

The hand selected independent retailers will be offering everything from food to handmade jewellery.

Organisers are advising people to pre-book 45 minute sessions for the ice rink, to avoid the expected queues.

A spokesperson for the Mellors group said: “The best part about it is undoubtedly the atmosphere, it’s really the great, fun festive atmosphere that attracts people.”

Much of Nottingham will be eagerly awaiting the opening later this month, as the wonderland is set for another successful year.
