Notts County FC’s end-of-season awards ceremony has been cancelled following the liquidation of the Ladies’ squad.
The ceremony has been called off after Notts County Ladies folded as a club, just two days before their first Women’s Super League game of the season against Arsenal.
Public outrage followed on from the club’s liquidation after the entire squad was left effectively jobless on April 21.
The club had predicted an income of £28,000 across the season, compared to expected outgoings of half a million pounds.
Notts County Ladies only formed in 2014 following the relocation and re-branding of Lincoln City Ladies and finished 6th in last season’s WSL 1 championship.
Chairman Alan Hardy has cancelled the awards ceremony in light of this, believing it would be inappropriate to stage such celebrations.
“It’s been a very difficult week for everyone connected with Notts County – players, staff and fans.”
“While Kevin and his team deserve recognition for all their hard work, I don’t think it’s right that we go ahead with an event of this nature.”
I made this decision this morning as I felt it is inappropriate that we celebrate on Saturday night in consideration of the Ladies situation https://t.co/Vhd3gM3S58

Awards will now be handed out at the club’s next men’s game versus Blackpool on Saturday April 29.
Supporters who had already booked tickets for the awards ceremony will be contacted by the club’s commercial department.
