A building in Canning Circus, Nottingham, has been demolished after a fire.

The blaze on Wednesday afternoon severely destroyed the building and caused major traffic delays.

Traffic in Nottingham on Wednesday was described as “chaos” as the whole city came to a stand still due to closures on Alfreton Road and Derby Road.

Some citizens took to social media to have their say.

Twitter user @GlitzyRach, Nottingham, said: “This doesn’t surprise me! These buildings near a town centre needed knocking down. Many been empty for years! .”

The demolition was completed at around 11:30am this morning (Thursday), leaving behind just a pile of rubble which the building firm, NewLine, is removing.

Traffic has returned to a steady flow and the road has reopened.
