A body was found at an unoccupied bungalow in Sutton-in-Ashfield early yesterday morning during the search for a missing woman.

Melanie Wilson, 22, has been missing for two weeks and was last seen at her flat on Stoneyford Road on Wednesday 19 October at 11.20pm.

Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, Melanie’s family have been informed.

“We’re all heartbroken”

Nottinghamshire Police carried out searches at Sutton Lawn Park pond and King’s Mill Resevoir as well as a handing out flyers in the Teversal Trails area, urging residents to contact them with any information.

Melanie’s Father, David, said: “The last contact I had with her was a text she sent me at about 11pm on Wednesday 19 October which said ‘I love you dad.’ I sent her one back saying ‘I love you too darling.’

“The last time I saw her was when she popped in to see me at home on Monday 17 October. We just had a general chat and hugged each other as she left. She seemed her usual self.

“I’d imagine hell is similar to what I and family and friends are going through. We’re all heartbroken. Everywhere we look there’s a reminder of her” he said.

The discovery comes after the second day of searching when a group of 30 friends and family members desperately searched for the young woman on grassland and built-up areas earlier in the week.

The bungalow where the body of a young woman was found is currently unoccupied and is now surrounded by a police cordon.

Miss Wilson is described as being 5ft 6ins tall, blonde hair and a distinctive sleeve tattoo with a woman’s face on her right arm. She works a volunteer in a local charity shop and lives alone with two cats, who are now being cared for by family members.

Friends of the missing woman have said they will not give up searching until an official identification has been confirmed.

If you have seen Melanie Wilson or have any information of her disappearance, please contact the police on 101 quoting incident number 858 of 21 October 2016.
