Excitement levels are rising for Nottingham locals as work begins to transform the city centre’s Old Market Square, into an arena for the final of the European Archery Championships.

The seven-day tournament, which is being held in the UK for the first time, began its qualification stages on Monday at the University of Nottingham’s Highfields playing fields.

The final, which is taking place in the square on the weekend of May 28 and 29, will be a battle between the best of hundreds of Europe’s top archers.
