It has been 21 years since Manchester’s Stone Roses last released any new material and now they are making a comeback with a fresh single for the fans to be mad about.
Four years on since they reunited, All For One is a song that epitomises the unity of band members and friends Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni.
Since their reunion the band have favoured their original material from 1989 debut album The Stone Roses and their 1994 sophomore album instead of venturing into new territory.
However, fans were sent into a frenzy of excitement last week when the iconic Stone Roses lemon began to appear in shops across the country and before long they were united round the radio as the new single aired on Thursday night.
“All for one, one for all, if we all join hands we’ll make a wall.”
With such a long wait for new music many were concerned that the familiar sound may be difficult to rekindle, but those concerns were blown away in a three minute long walk down memory lane.
All For One is a truly classic Madchester anthem that will capture the attention of not just the raver generation of yesteryear but also younger fans who have been introduced to the scene through This Is England 90 and Spike Island.
John Squire’s dreamy guitar riffs interweave in and out of a typically baggy beat created by Mani and Reni. Instrumentally the song is simply superb.
Lyrically it is short and sweet and the chorus infectious: “All for one, one for all, if we all join hands we’ll make a wall.”
Although unadventurous, the lyrics are clearly another nod to the unity and brotherly love within the band, fantastic to see 33 years on from their inception.
With its anthemic sound, the single is certain to go down as a hit with the droves of bucket-hat wearing fans this summer when the band play a host of sell-out shows.
The Stone Roses are set to play four huge gigs at the Etihad Stadium in their home town of Manchester this July.
With homecoming gigs on the horizon this isn’t the end for new material from the band. More singles are set to follow before finally fans will be treated with a much anticipated third album.
